A workshop room with a panel of professionals and attendees

The virtual workshop

The workshop, without the drive.

Our workshop is the free monthly Zoom, Divorce and the House: a real estate professional, a mortgage professional and a title professional, second Saturday of every month, 9:00 to 10:00 AM Mountain, answering the questions you send ahead. Everything else on this page is the reading that goes with it, written by the real estate group from public Colorado sources, so you can start tonight. For law, money and counseling we refer you to professionals we know.

The main event, online

Divorce and the House: Sell It, Keep It or Buy Out Your Spouse?

A free one-hour Zoom, once a month, taught by the group that sells divorce homes every month in Colorado: what the house is worth, how the equity splits, what a buyout costs, and when selling before the decree saves you money. We teach; we do not pitch.

How to use this

Pick the talk that matches where you are. Each one is a set of short pages: the answer first, then the numbers, then a Q&A of what people actually ask in the room. Nothing requires an account or an email. When a question needs a professional, the page says which one and how to find one in Colorado.

Segment 1: What Colorado law actually does

Segment 2: The money after one household becomes two

Segment 3: The house (The Kenna Group)

Segment 4: The loan (Mike Oswald at Rate)

Segments 5 and 6: Title, and the emotional side

Title. The deed moves ownership; the note stays until it is refinanced, paid off or released. A title company needs a recorded deed (or a certified decree) and a paid-off or refinanced loan before it will insure the staying spouse as sole owner. The Colorado documentary fee is one cent per $100 of consideration, and a spouse-to-spouse transfer in a divorce with no consideration owes none. Name change on a later deed: “Mary Smith, formerly Mary Jones.” The mortgage after divorce.

The emotional side. This segment covers what the research shows: divorce brings relief and reinvention alongside money worry and loneliness, and the two land differently on men and women. The practical version is simple. Make no permanent decision in the first bad week. Tell one person the whole truth. Get real help if you are not sleeping, not eating, or not safe. Where to find it in Colorado.

Questions people ask about the workshop

Is it really free?

Yes. No cost, no upsell, no obligation to hire anyone. The professionals volunteer their time. Kenna pays for the room and the coffee.

Do I have to be sure I am getting divorced?

No. Many people attend, or read this site, while they are still deciding. The point is to decide with information.

Will my spouse know I attended or read this?

Not from us. We do not contact spouses, share attendee lists with presenters, or follow up unless you ask. Use a private browser window if you share a device. Browsing safely.

Is this legal or financial advice?

No. It is education from professionals about how the process, the money and the house generally work in Colorado. Your case needs your own attorney, CPA and lender.

Can I bring someone?

Yes. A friend, a family member, or your attorney.

Is it only for women?

No. It is for anyone considering, starting or in the middle of a divorce, and for family members trying to help. Most attendees are women, and the site is written with that in mind.
