Colorado divorce by the numbers
Colorado divorce statistics: the rate, the counties, the ages, the money

Colorado divorces a little more than the country as a whole (2.8 versus 2.4 per 1,000), files about 23,291 cases a year, and follows every national trend: fewer divorces overall, later in life, after longer marriages, and with the house as the biggest asset on the table. El Paso County files the most cases; Denver, Arapahoe, Adams and Jefferson follow.

The house in a Colorado divorce
For most Colorado couples the house is the largest asset and the largest debt in the case. Metro Denver’s median single-family price is about $649,500 and the typical loan taken out in 2020 or 2021 carries a rate near 3 percent, which is why the buyout math and the refinance deadline decide more divorces than the law does. What happens to the house, the buyout math, selling during the case, and seven free guides.
